Chief of Staff

About us

Founded and led by MIT-trained bioengineers, Tulip Biosciences is an early-stage biotech company translating breakthrough research in mucus biology into a new class of mucin-mimetic biomaterials that restore the body’s natural mucus barrier, with an initial focus on women’s health.


Role

We are excited to hire a Chief of Staff to work directly with the CEO as a right-hand partner in the execution of everyday critical activities. This is a senior generalist role for someone who wants real responsibility, broad scope, and proximity to decision-making in an early-stage biotech.


You will operate hands-on across operations, strategy, and execution—helping translate priorities into action and ensuring important items all get completed. The scope is intentionally broad and will evolve as the company scales.

The Details

What You’ll Do

Strategic & CEO Partnership

  • Act as a trusted thought partner and execution extension to the CEO
  • Participate in key meetings and translate discussions into clear decisions and next steps
  • Shape and pressure-test strategy; translate priorities into plans, timelines, and outcomes
  • Prepare and refine materials and facilitate conversations with external stakeholders (investors, partners, advisors)


Cross-Functional Initiative Management

  • Lead and coordinate high-priority, cross-functional initiatives that cut across science, operations, and business
  • Track dependencies, surface risks early, and ensure accountability and follow-through
  • Help establish operating rhythms, planning cadences, and lightweight systems as the company scales


Business & Operational Execution

  • Drive follow-ups, close loops, and proactively resolve issues without CEO involvement
  • Manage external vendors and  advisors (legal, IP counsel, accounting, payroll, consultants)
  • Coordinate core company operations (insurance, accounting, taxes, filings, compliance)

Who We’re Looking For

  • 5–8 years of professional experience; MBA preferred
  • Experience in startups, biotech, consulting, venture, or adjacent high-ownership environments
  • Prior Chief of Staff experience preferred
  • Strong judgment and comfort operating with incomplete information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High ownership mentality with a strong bias toward action and follow-through


Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with IP, licensing, grants, or early-stage company operations
  • Comfort with financial modeling, budgeting, or working closely with accounting and finance partners
  • Social media and communications fluency (e.g., managing or advising on LinkedIn, web presence, or light brand execution)
  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor updates, or board materials
  • Interest in taking on additional scope over time (e.g., hiring coordination, internal operations, special projects)

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive for an early-stage Boston-area biotech and commensurate with experience and scope. The expected base salary range is $90k–$140k, depending on seniority and fit, with medical, dental, and vision benefits. 


Specific compensation details will be discussed with candidates during the interview process.
